Yoga for Myofacial Pain and Fibromyalgia

The most popular form of yoga practiced in the United States is called Hatha Yoga whereby one sits in extreme positions for a varying length of time. Practitioners of yoga claim that yoga can help with back pain, arthritis, anxiety, migraines, insomnia, menstrual problems, hypertension, asthma, ulcers, diabetes, and more. Be very careful when practicing yoga as it may be too harsh for your body. Try to find a more gentle form of yoga. Tell us your experience with yoga. Rate this treatment below.

yoga is so worth it   09/27/08

Yoga hurt so much initially. I do a yoga class once a week. Each day I do about a 5 minute sequence of yoga stretching. (If I did a practice everyday or even every other day I could have much more relief.) A good yoga session feels like a chiropractic/massage session. The satisfaction is that I have been so kind to take the time to make myself feel better. I wish I had the time to go to a class every day, but I don't.

Be gentle with yourself   02/17/07

This works to compliment other drug therapies. There is a fine line between too much and not enough. Always work to your edge (pain) and hold it there and see what happens. I have found that my edge gradually moves further away from pain and I DO get a reprieve from the pain for a while. It takes effort and dedication to stick with Yoga but there will be many hidden benefits that come with practicing it. See if you can find someone to teach you though as you can hurt yourself if you try and Do-it-yourself.

Yoga does help, but not that much for me. It used to help more, but it doesn't have the same results. Some poses actually make me more sore.
