Physical Therapy as a Fibromyalgia Treatment

Physical Therapy for Fibromyalgia

A physical therapist may help a person with fibromyalgia by overseeing their aerobic exercise routine, helping with stress relieving techniques, and stretching. If a person also has myofascial pain, a good physical therapist who understands the condition will not subject the person with CMP to strength training until they get rid of the trigger points. Talk about a flair-up!   07/29/11
Reviewed by:     Location Not Given
I tried phys therapy in the past, before I was diagnosed and wondered why every time I came out of that place I felt like I was literally beaten to death. Then once diagnosed, my rhum. dr. said it was one of the worst treatments for fibro. Recently, upon a new dr's. request to try again, I was very brave and gave it another shot. Clearly desperate to feel better I tried and I have to say it beat the crap outta me again! So, no, this treatment does not help one bit. In fact, it actually is harmful to me.

PT ****   02/12/11

Been doing PT for quite awhile, on and off. My script runs out when my pain is tolerable and then it's down hill again. That cycle has been the norm for me because the insurance co. is dictating my treatments. Just going to PT, forcing myself to get outta bed, get ready and go. That in its self is a HUGE help.

Physical Therapy Not For Me   08/15/05
Reviewed by:     Oklahoma, USA
I went to PT for 4 months, three times a week. It was very expensive and I endured painful massages. Massage and heat were the two primary methods used to treat my condition. It did help but was not worth the $240 per session I had to pay. Now I use my own heating pad and stretching at home.

Helps a bit   08/15/05
Reviewed by:     Boise, Idaho, USA
It helps a bit because the PT also uses ultra sound to relax my muscles and massages them down. Sometimes they hurt and she'll back off and gently massage the pain away. She knows fibro and knows what to do. I also have DDD and spinal arthritis. SO she is senstivie to my back muscles. She encouragaes my aqua aerobics and because of my financial situation, I do the aerobics for free.
