Myofascial Treatment for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Release

Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome may be helped by Myofascial Release, which is a whole body, highly specialized, hands on technique of applying sustained pressure into the connective tissue. This connective tissue (or fascia) is very densely woven into our muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, veins, and all of the internal organs (such as the heart, lungs, brain, and spine).

As we go through life and experience stress, physical traumas, child birth, inflammations, and even acquiring poor posture, this connective tissue becomes tight, restricted, and tense many times resulting in stiffness and pain. Myofascial Release uses many release techniques to make your connective tissue relax in a healthy state, thus taking away any type of trigger point pain. The size and intesity of these trigger point pain sores gradually decreases with treatment.

Just kill me   06/28/08

Been going through PT (physical torture) for the last three weeks. Not too bad going through the release but the pain is really bad afterwards, and through the next few days. I see no point to this but my PCP, my rhemuy and my c-spine doc are all pushing this treatment on me. Sorry but this just adds to my pain and anxiety right now. PCP cut back my norco from 6 per day to 3. Not good timing.

pressing on trigger points aggrevates them so they are worse than before they were pressed. heat and stretching help temporarily. but the only way to eliminate them for some of us is to inject them. be careful of pressing on your trigger points, if they are true trigger points.

Physical Therapy   06/18/07
Reviewed by:     California, USA
I have worked with a "hands on" PT now for 7 months, and she has been a GODSEND. Nothing else has been NEARLY as effective as her ability to pinpoint trigger areas and work on them. I have undergone everthing from topical myofascial work, to finding out that my pelvic floor is EXTREMELY ridgid, and having those muscles released. I cannot say ENOUGH about my wonderful therapist. I also know though, that she does NOT practice physical therapy in a standard fashion.

This has been one of the few things that has relieved pain. When the massage is occuring, it is extremely painful (enough to break into tears), however there is a significant decrease in pain after it has been done. I look forward to how I feel after the massage every week.

I loved it.   08/27/05
Reviewed by:     Location Not Given
I loved having myofascial release massages. They were painful at first, but to me it was one of those "good" pains. I was warned that I might feel nausea after the session and I did some. I also had to go home and go to bed. The first time I had the treatment, I'd driven myself to the office and wasn't sure I'd make it home without needing to pull over somewhere to nap. My PT also warned me of the possibility of bruising. I bruised badly...like someone had beaten my back. But, it only bothered the PT because he thought he'd caused more pain. I felt so much better the day after the treatment.
