Meditation for Fibromyalgia Symptoms
Because stress can exacerbate the symptoms of fibromyalgia, meditation can be very useful.
The purpose of meditation, is to free the mind of your attachment to negative people,
negative things, negative places, negative beliefs, and negative experiences. The goal is
to detach yourself from the world for awhile, freeing the mind and body from all attachment to
problems, relaxing / shutting the body down for a period of time, thus rejuvenating the body.
A popular form of meditation is called transcendental meditation. Transcendental Meditation is
expensive but it's one of the best methods.
The technique of meditating is to focus the mind inward. Everytime your mind slips outward by attaching
to negative thoughts, you gently bring it back inward towards the place where there is no negativity. If
one were to force the mind back inward abruptly rather than gently, one would experience a headache. People
who meditate correctly and consistently can actually get very good at detaching from stress (the world).

Well Worth Trying!! 10/03/07

I used to meditate years ago - transendental mixed with focusing of chi. Mostly to do with martial arts and helping me cope with Asthma. I never thought about meditating until reading the reviews on this website, under meditation,Tai Chi and Myofascial Release, which just tied in with everything I'd learned about Chi, accupunture etc. I spoke with a friend who's a physio, so I thought I'd give it a go.
It's like riding a bike really - the hardest thing was keeping my mind blank and focusing on the inward and putting the everyday stuff away.
The only side effect is falling asleep!!
When I awoke the next morning I couldn't believe how much less the ache in my legs was and I didn't feel the usual tiredness I have, not just in the morning, but all day! The biggest surprise though, was the clarity of thought I had; I really just hadn't realised how foggy this condition has made my thinking ability until now!
It cost nothing and just requires a bit focusing the mind, if it gives you just one day of feeling "normal" again, then it's got to be worth the effort, hasn't it!!

Meditation Review 08/18/05

Overall, I find that tension increases nearly all of the most troublesome symptoms of FMS/CFIDS and increased symptoms add to the tension creating a vicious circle. Meditation helps to break the circle.

I call this balancing your inner self 08/14/05

I love meditation! This form of relaxation free's your mind and body even if for a minute. The tricks are to learn to breathe from your diaphram and not to focus on thoughts.
The hardest part being a FM patient with CMP is to find your comfortable position. Once that is accomplished you are on your way to relaxation.
Meditation is just another way to relax. Let your worries go and to release tension. There is nothing "newfangled" about it. Meditaion is just as simple as sitting , breathing, and listening.
Give it a try! You never know, you may have now found a life long practice.
