Guaifenesin Protocol for Fibromyalgia by Paul St. Amand, M.D.
The Protocol consists of:
1. Reading his book (to know the correct dosage for you, to know what specifically to avoid,
and to know what will happen).
2. Taking Guaifenesin
3. Avoiding salicylates
4. Low Carb Diet
In his book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia: The Revolutionary Treatment
That Can Reverse the Disease" Paul St. Amand, M.D. writes about how he discovered that the
drug guaifenesin can actually give patients the possibility of reversing fibromyalgia. However, for
guaifenesin to work, one must eliminate all sources of salicylates (a chemical compound
that blocks the effectiveness of guaifenesin.) Salicylates can be found in many common things
that people use. He calls his method of reversing fibromyalgia, "the guaifenesin protocol."
Dr. St. Amand also speaks about how the initial stages of taking guaifenesin
are the most horrible as the body cleanses itself (the sufferer will begin to
question whether the drug is actually working). However, it is the later stages
of taking guaifenisin whereby Dr. St. Amand states that the person's fibromyalgia
begins to dissipate.
Tell us your experiences with the Guaifenisin Protocal as a Fibromyalgia treatment. Rate the treatment below.

I never cycled. Only got way worse to the point of having to stop it. I gave it a long try because nothing else was out there.
I think in some people it must pull toxins OR is a placebo. There is no science behind this. Read studies.

Guai didn't help me 08/02/11
Reviewed by:
Granada Hills L.A., California, USA
I heard of the guai protocol around 2001. I tried it for a while, and found it really didn't help my symptoms, and it was a hassle. Perhaps because I didn't do the protocol under a doctor's care?
First off, FINDING it at that time was hard. I had to buy it online. Nowadays, it CAN be purchased at many local stores, so it isn't as difficult now.
Also, something that "they" never mention - for the protocol to work best, you must remove ALL sources of alpha and beta Hydroxies - AND salicylates! Beyond "no aspirin", I was reading labels and seeking all sources of these in my life. Hair and skin products, foods, medicines, supplements - this stuff was EVERYWHERE! It was HARD WORK to find it and not take it in! Salicylates seemed to be in or on everything, and I wanted NONE in my life so the treatment would be effective.
Even after doing that, I really didn't notice any marked improvement in my symptoms, pain and exhaustion remained. Flares remained. All the other little symptoms such as brutal hangnails and thick phlegm, surprisingly, remained.
So although it isn't expensive, and not as difficult to do nowadays, I find it doesn't help my form of fibro. YMMV, and good luck to you!

This Protocol WORKS!!! 06/20/11
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
I am a severe fibromyalgia sufferer with Insulin dependent diabetes for 23 years, one kidney lost in an accident 5.5 years ago and severe intolerances to gluten, dairy, soy, corn, and many other foods and chemicals. My 18 and 22 year old sons also have FMS and had trouble controlling their epileptic seizures until we started to control the FMS with guaifenesin and diet. In our books, we are thankful to Dr. St. Amand's work and dedication every single day, even though we have never met him or been able to travel from Canada to have an appointment with him. I read his and Claudia Marek's book, got advice and help from their website, and got questions answered from the guai group at http://community.lsoft.com/archives/GUAIGROUP.html We have all improved drastically and are now on the road to a much better life. I can't say enough good things about their success, because it has saved our lives!!!

This is a difficult treatment to undergo. One, theres not alot of doctors who participate, so you pretty much gotta do it on your own, And two, your symptoms must get worse before they improve and for most people this would be a problem; however if you're as sick and debilitated as myself than you don't work or have anything to lose.In the long run this is working.I have been on for one year and I can't express how happy I am that I stuck it out

guai protocol 12/29/09
Reviewed by:

I started taking guai on Jan. 4 2009, at the time i could barely walk, and had all of the common fibro symptoms. I went thru alot of pain and hard work on my part. as of Oct. i returned to work after 2 years off. as of Dec.18 i started to play hockey again. I still have along way to go, but i am an exception. Every one progresses at their own pace. I probably would have been in a wheel chair today if had not been for the local Guai Group's help.

Be tough and keep going... 11/30/09
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
I've seen comments of people who complain of no improvement after a week or a month...you have to keep going. Pull up your boot straps and keep marching on, it takes time but the improvements come. My first was dreaming again, then my hair stopped falling out, the dry skin on my face cleared, my IBS became almost non-existant, I started SLEEPING AT NIGHT, etc. I would love for my pain/fatigue to be suddenly gone but they are going to take longer. And yes, there was more pain at first but it calmed down some later and I have now had one day that my pain was reduced enough to finally see the difference in the pain and the fatigue. Until that day, I thought the pain caused my weakness/fatigue. I'm in a cycle that is causing pain right now that is over two weeks long but I know that eventually I will have a good day and that along with that good day there will be some kind of improvement. The pain and fatigue I'm learning are not some of the quicker and more consistent improvements but given time they will come I'm sure because I've had enough improvement and just enough "good" days to prove to me that I'm on the right track.

When a protocol has to have a hot line to advise you on all the things that you have to avoid it is truly a joke. You can't even walk barefoot in the grass. I used this total waist of time for 9 month's. One thing that you should know is that this protocol states that you have to get sicker before you get better and it sure as hell did that.If you really have myofascial pain go to the Blatman Pain clinic in Cincinnati Ohio.Dr Blatman is America's leading authority on Simon's and Travail's trigger point therapy and IT DOES WORK.After two years of this protocol I have gone from a cripple to leaving a pain free productive life His phone number is (513)956-3200
