Chiropractic for Fibromyalgia / Chronic Myofascial Pain
Chiropractic may or may not help fibromyalgia, but it can help a fibromyalgic's chronic myofascial pain.
The idea behind chiropractic is to keep one's spine aligned. If one's spine is unaligned, problems such
as bodily pain and headaches may occur. Chiropractors in previous years have used manual bodily adjustments
to adjust a person's spine. Nowadays, many chiropractors use what's called an "activator." An activator is
a device that lightly taps sections of one's spine back into alignment. Some chiropractors may use a combination
of manual bodily adjustments and the activator device. Tell us your experience with chiropractic as a

Chiropractic has made a tremendous difference in m 06/28/07

I started seeing a chiroprator last summer (06) after relocating and no longer having an osteopathic physician. I was in a major flare, plus old back issues were acting up. My chiro is gentle, understands the frustrations of FMS and MPS and sees me as I need to be seen. When not "flaring" I see him 1-2 times a month. However, when I am in a flare he is very good at loosening up my muscles and trigger points. He also helps with checking my supplements /home excercise and is a caring person. I believe chiropratic care is worth the time and brief discomfort when being adjusted. I have more energy and tolerance for the pain. He treats a person holistically.

Chiropractic has helped me dramatically! 04/02/07
Reviewed by:
North Carolina, USA
My husband had been after me for years to seek treatment with a chiroprator but I just didn't see how spinal manipulation could possibly help since nothing else seemed to. It just seemed too simple. Well, I was wrong. My Rheumotologist ruled out Arthritis so I was free to go to Chiropratoring. After my initial visit I went 3xs a week for two weeks, then 2xs for three weeks then once a week for two weeks. After that the visits weaned down to once a week followed by once every other week then monthly. The biggest thing to look for in a Chiropractor is the "Flexation Table." This table helps to "stretch" those tight muscles that cause so much pain as well as helping to align your spine for a better manipulation. Don't let the Chiropractor tell you that you will have to come so many times a week or month for life, it's simply not true. Maintenence is the key! In order to keep limber in the meantime, join a water areobics class at your local YMCA or gym. My Chiropractor is the one who suggested it and said it was the best exercize for Fibromyalgia sufferer's and he was right, but keep with it.
I have nearly regained my old life. Thank goodness for a good Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine.

Chiropractor's are wonderful 09/18/06
Reviewed by:

If it was not for my chiropractor (and not all of them will treat you the same) I would be in constant pain and fatigue. I have been going to the Chiropractor for over twenty years. Although they can't help with all the pain and discomfort, they make it bearable and I am able to keep a full-time job. I am sure I would not be able to work with my FMS if I didn't have this option. My chiropractor allows me to judge when I should come in next. Sometimes I can go a whole month without seeing him, but usually it is once every other week. Make sure you see someone who is sensitive to FMS or CPF - it can make all the difference in the world.

For those who have some overlaying/underlying joints that might have started the fibromyalgia cycle, chiropractic can help tremendously. Surprisingly, the chiropractic also helped the TMJ that I have as well....Can be a bit painful, but even without insurance I'm only paying $30 per week, and get a good deal of pain relief with the treatments.

This did not help 02/18/05
Reviewed by:
Wichita, Kansas, USA
A friend suggested this to me. It wasn't the best advice. They adjust your spine with a clicking device that softly punches your bones of your spine in. I learned at the session that chiropractors believe that a crooked spine causes pain, and that an "adjustment" will help. That's when I knew it wasn't going to help me. It seems as if chiropractic is for other types of pain. I also got a headache after the chiropractor twisted my neck.
