Omega 3 Fish Oil   04/10/08
Reviewed by:     Location Not Given
Based on the suggestion of a friend of mine who knows nutrition very well, I began taking 2000 mg of Omega 3 fish oil (from the kosher fish) in capsule form first thing in the morning as a way of fighting the "fibro fog." It seems to work extremely well; if I neglect to take my fish oil for two days, I can tell because I am not as focused and can't think as well. Fortunately, once I start taking it again, I improve quickly. It also seems to help with depression and probably helps with pain and inflammation. I am not sure how much it helps with pain because I am taking another supplement for that, and I began it just before the Omega 3 fish oil. The best place for me to buy the fish oil is Whole Foods Market, where they sell a very big bottle of the capsules (180 capsules, I think) for under $12. It is in distilled form (?), which I think means that it does not contain any heavy metals or other toxins. There are two side effects I have noticed with the fish oil, and one of them is beneficial: 1) I can sometimes taste the fish oil after taking it (this is not the beneficial side effect). This is alleviated by drinking coffee or eating something with a strong flavor (eggs, cheese toast....) after taking the capsules. 2) The fish oil "thins the blood" or makes one bleed more. I have heard that if one is having surgery or extensive dental work, one should refrain from taking it a day or two before. If one has a heavier than normal menstrual flow, one should stop taking it for a day or two. The benefit of this effect is that Omega 3 fish oil is highly beneficial for cardiovascular problems, in part because it "thins the blood." I am almost of the opinion that everyone should take this stuff, except for people allergic to fish.
