Glycine Works for Sleep, Stress, Sore Muscles!   04/19/07
Reviewed by:     Location Not Given
I started taking L-Glycine, an amino acid, about a month ago. I started slow with about 100 mg a day, and now have built up to about 1-1.5 grams a day in divided doses of 250 mg or so. I started on it because my doc said a liver test showed I was low in it. However, it has made a major improvement in my life! The three things it has made major improvements in are: My feeling of "stress," my ability to feel tiredness and to sleep, and constant sore and aching muscles. The most important effect has been in cutting feelings of panic and stress. It is almost like a miracle! It doesn't make me drowsy, but just makes me feel more calm. It also has seemingly brought back my "sleep response"-- I now start to feel sleepy at night. It has helped my waking up in the middle of the night by about 50%. The few times I have woken up in the middle of the night I have taken a 500 mg capsule right then, and within 30 minutes I am sleeping soundly again and for another 4 or 5 hours straight. Amazing!

Another bonus is that it has helped my constant muscle soreness by about 30-50%. I can now walk up the stairs with just a little soreness, not like I ran a marathon, which is how it used to be! Wow.

Oh, also, it increased my sense of smell by about 200%. Everything suddenly smells GOOOOOD! I realized it has been a long time since I smelled things like this!

Three minor side effects I have noticed is that my mouth is now dry sometimes. I also think one day I may have overdone it. I had many muscle twitches (not a usual symptom for me) and I felt a little depressed (also not a usual symptom for me.) I cut the does back a little, and those symptoms went away.

best wishes to all--
