neurontin makes a big difference 09/27/08

While not an end all treatment, Neurontin, 500mg taken right before bedtime, makes a big difference in my deep bone/muscle pain. I am able to work (as a teacher) and live a full life. I also take several other medications for my fibro, but neurontin does make a BIG difference in the quality of my life.

Scary side effects, no reduction in pain 08/22/08

I was prescribed a steadily increasing dose of Neurontin, but by the time I began taking 400 mg at night and 100 in the morning, the side effects made it impossible for me to work or drive. In addition to a crushing headache, I experienced uncontrollable daytime drowsiness. While at work I fell asleep so suddenly I bit my tongue and lips as my head snapped forward and I also began dreaming before even really falling asleep -- so the dream images were almost like hallucinations. I was afraid to drive even short distances. Now I'm taking just 300 mg at night and the side effects have tapered off but there's been no improvement in the pain it was prescribed to relieve.

Been on this, Gabapentin, for several months now and did work great at first, but I'm still not convinced the dose is right yet. I also take 75mcg/hr of Durogesic DTrans fentanyl patches. I'm gonna try it for a little longer as I haven't wieghed up whether or not Pregabalin will be of more benefit to me.

Works Well with the Patch 06/28/07

I had to give this medication some time before it worked properly, so 'hang in there' if you thinks it's not working for you.
I'm now taking 2400mg a day and when I tried to scale back on some of my meds, I found that I missed this medication. According to my doctor, Neurontin works along with the patch (Duragesic) so trying to cut back on this medication only took away from how the patch was working, too.
Take this for several months before giving up on it. You'll either LOVE it or HATE it. There doesn't seem to be a happy medium here.

If I did not have this I would not be able to work, stay married, function at all! Highly recommend it but work with a md to get the right dosage. It did nothing for me until I got it to the right dose amount.

When being treated for a suddent onset of myofacial pain, Neurontin was prescribed. It was noted that the fibromyalgia pain would increase as I was tapering off the drug. I am going back on 100mg 3x a day (Was taking 300mg 4 times a day and worked down to 100mg every day).

I looked like I had bells palsey. Neurotin gets me through the day without a droopy lip. It does make me feel a little whoozie, and loosens me up and not be so stiff in both situations. Mentally and physically stiff. It gets me through my foggy days as well.
Read my review on Provigil, which seems to have helped alot of people with mental clarity. AND THAT I THINK IS WORTH IT!

I was so disabled with this medication that I was in a wheelchair. it did not work for me as far as pain relief, and could only say that I slept most of the time I was not stumbling around. there was talk of me going to a nursing home and once I quit the medcation I was up and walking around again!!!! it is not the miracle drug at least it was not for me!!!

Neurontin Gave Me Back My Life 02/24/06

Before I discovered neurontin I was so tired and in so much pain I was disabled. I couldn't work or enjoy life. Neurontin took a few weeks to start working, but it changed my life. In fact before I started taking the neurontin I was just wait for an end to a nightmare. I joined the human race after a few weeks of treatment. I continue to have pain, but the neurontin keeps the level endurable. I worry about the high dosage I am taking, but I rather live to fifty and have had a life than live to a hundred disabled.

Most people that I know who have FMS and use Neurontin for treatment are not on a high enough dose. So, they give up because they don't think it is going to make much of a differance. If you have a good doctor he/she will work you up to at least 600mg 3 times a day. It has helped me to stop taking addicting pain meds. I noticed a difference the first week. I've had FMS for 6 years now.

It seems to help my overall mood/pain/sleep BUT it makes me sleep even more that the 12 hr's I sleep now. I was prescribed up to 600-800 as I remember but after trying I find that I can only take 200mg and still get up.
